Reminders
When does a reminder arrive?
Once, when a counter goes past its rhythm — for example seven days after you last watered a plant set to “every 7 days”. Counters without a rhythm never send reminders. Logging a counter starts the next one.
I'm not getting reminders
- Open the counter: the line under Remind me when it's late says what's happening, and links to the fix when something is off.
- Check notifications are allowed for Whense in your phone's settings, and Settings › Reminders › Allow is on in the app.
- Quiet hours (22:00–08:00) hold reminders until the morning. You can turn them off in Settings › Reminders.
- A counter may be muted: check its switch on the counter's page or in Settings › Reminders.
- On Android, battery savers can delay reminders by up to an hour.
Can I snooze a reminder?
Yes — the notification has Snooze 2 days (press and hold it on iPhone). It reminds you again in two days if you still haven't logged it. Log it logs straight from the notification.
Logging
I forgot to log it when it happened
Open the counter and tap Earlier… to pick the day it happened.
I logged by mistake
Tap Undo on the message that appears after logging. Later, open the counter and remove the entry from its history (you can undo that too).
I deleted a counter
It's in Settings › Recently deleted, with its whole history. Tap to put it back.
Widgets
How do I add a widget?
- iPhone Home Screen: touch and hold an empty spot, tap Edit › Add Widget, and search for Whense. Choose a single counter or the “Needs you” list. Touch and hold the widget › Edit Widget to pick which counter it shows.
- iPhone Lock Screen: touch and hold the Lock Screen › Customize, tap a widget area and choose Whense.
- Control Center (iOS 18 and later): open Control Center, touch and hold an empty area, tap Add a Control and choose Log a counter.
- Android: touch and hold an empty spot on the Home Screen › Widgets › Whense. Touch and hold a placed widget to change its counter.
Does the widget open the app when I tap the check?
No. The check mark logs the counter in place and the number resets to zero. Tap anywhere else on the widget to open the counter.
My widget shows old numbers or “Open the app”
Open Whense once. Widgets read the counters Whense has already saved, so a brand-new install has nothing to show until the app has run. After that they refresh by themselves, and again whenever you log.
Your data
Moving to a new phone
Your counters come across with your phone's own backup: restore your new iPhone from an iCloud Backup, or set up your new Android phone with the same Google account and backup turned on. Deleting and reinstalling the app on the same iPhone doesn't bring data back; restoring the phone from a backup does. Moving between iPhone and Android isn't supported yet.
Where is my data?
Only on your device. There is no account and nothing is sent to us. See the privacy policy.
Reading and comfort
Bigger text, dark mode, colours
Whense follows your phone's text size and dark mode. In Settings › Appearance you can also choose Light or Dark, a text size, spacing, a colour palette, how vivid the colours are, and the paper tone. Colours always come with words, so nothing depends on colour alone.
